AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: “River’s Edge” isn’t the only heavy-metal sound track coming out this summer. If you can wait till September, you’ll get a mega-metal dose from the sound track to “Dudes,” the upcoming Penelope Spheeris psychedelic-warrior film that co-stars Jon Cryer and Lee Ving. The record, due out on MCA, will include Megadeth’s new speed-metal version of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin,’ ” a remake of “Rock ‘n’ Roll Outlaw” by Keel and new songs from Legal Weapon, Steve Vai, W.A.S.P. and the Little Kings. . . .

Stan Ridgeway has left I.R.S. Records and joined Geffen Records. The ex-Wall of Voodoo leader, who has also severed his ties with LAPD management, is expected to go into the studio later this summer, with an album due out by the end of the year. . . .

The British Invasion is back--and it’ll be in L.A. this fall, when co-headliners Echo & the Bunnymen and New Order, joined by Gene Loves Jezebel, hit town (playing Irvine Meadows Sept. 12 and the Forum Sept. 13). The trio of bands will do a five-week tour together, beginning in mid-August. The Bunnymen also have a new album, “The Game,” due out July 7. . . .
