However, don’t expect the classic Bournonville ballet (music by Lovenskjold) that has long survived in the repertory of the Royal Danish Ballet--for this is a reconstruction by Pierre Lacotte of the original, historic 1832 Filippo Taglioni version (music by Schneitzhoeffer). In Lacotte’s atmospheric Paris Opera Ballet production, the stylish dancing by Ghislaine Thesmar and Michel Denard remains treasurable despite the bizarre camera placements and a worn, roughly re-spliced film print.
