The Directors Guild of America wants its new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to include a ban on colorizing black-and-white films, Daily Variety reported Tuesday. The proposal is one of 20 included in the DGA’s “creative rights” package that was presented to the alliance last week and that will be negotiated directly with the chief executives of the major studios. In addition, the proposal is worded to prohibit artificially panning, cropping and/or framing theatrical films for television, as well as the speeding up or slowing down of films to fit TV time-slots. Among other DGA proposals: that actors not be allowed to direct TV shows in which they star, and that casting directors be renamed casting advisers.
