HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL : El Camino Real Moves Closer to Fifth Appearance in Finals
El Camino Real, which has won the last four City Section softball championships, reached the 4-A semifinals Wednesday with a 3-2 win over Chatsworth at El Camino Real.
Chatsworth loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but was unable to score. Jodi Iwafuchi (13-0) struck out three and pitched a complete game for El Camino Real.
El Camino Real (17-0), which ran its winning streak to 72, will face San Pedro, a 7-2 winner over San Fernando, in the semifinals Wednesday.
CITY SECTION 4-A
QUARTERFINALS
Sylmar 5, Narbonne 1--Deanna Monroy struck out four and scattered five hits to lead Sylmar. Monroy (11-3) allowed five walks and Sylmar committed six errors, but Narbonne only was able to score in the fifth inning. Maureen Monroy had two hits and two runs batted in for Sylmar, which will play Banning in the semifinals Wednesday.
Banning 11, Kennedy 1--Kennedy trailed, 4-1, after five innings, then committed four errors that led to seven runs in the sixth inning. Kennedy (6-6) scored its only run in the fifth when Avery Krutcher singled home DeAnn Wright, who also had singled.

QUARTERFINALS
Notre Dame 1, Mary Star 0--Becca Berline singled in the game’s only run and pitched a four-hitter to lead Notre Dame to the upset over third-seeded Mary Star.
