Fox Broadcasting Co., gradually positioning itself as the fourth national broadcast TV network, will join the other three in A. C. Nielsen Co.’s national ratings, the ratings firm said Friday.

Beginning July 11, when Fox is scheduled to introduce a full Saturday prime-time schedule, the new network will be included in the widely reported Nielsen Television Index that measures the competition of ABC, CBS and NBC.

In addition to the Fox Saturday programs, the ratings firm will be counting the viewers of the network’s existing Sunday line-up and its late-night talk show, said Joann Laverde, manager of press relations for Nielsen.

Fox, which expects to have more than 10 hours a week of programming in July, entered into a five-year contract for the national ratings report, Laverde said. She also said that the company is in negotiations with the other networks regarding renewals of their contracts.
