Los Angeles police Wednesday were searching for a man they say deliberately ran his car into two Los Angeles Police detectives.

Detective Dwayne Burris, a 16-year veteran, was treated at Valley Hospital for a minor leg injury after he was struck by the car, Detective Roger Pida said. Another detective, Robert Hart, was uninjured, Pida said.

Burris and Hart, both West Valley homicide detectives, were leaving the Los Angeles city attorney’s Van Nuys office when they saw a man trying to break into a vehicle in a parking lot, Pida said.

Seeing the detectives, the man ran to his car and, while attempting to flee, drove into the two detectives, Pida said. Police said one or both of the officers fired and apparently struck the car but not the driver.

The man was described as a thin Caucasian, 6-foot-1, about 25 years old with shoulder-length brown hair. The car was described as a faded yellow 1979 or 1980 Ford Fairlane or Fairmont.
