The California Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing Tuesday to discuss the agency’s plans for improving rail service between Los Angeles and San Diego.
The hearing, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the Santa Ana City Council chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza, involves Caltrans’ draft study of the tri-county rail corridor.
“We’ll examine ways to increase the number of Amtrak trains, decrease current running time and improve overall reliability while keeping the current freight capacity on the line,” Caltrans Director Leo J. Trombatore said.
The agency is studying an increase in commuter service and eventually buying the rail line from the Santa Fe Railway.
