Share

Sixteen people were left homeless early Friday morning when fire damaged a house at 2113 E. Blanchard Ave., Fire Department officials said.

Jill Skinner of the department said three or four families lived in the house, and a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross said the agency was providing shelter and food for the 16 people left homeless by the fire.

Skinner said the fire, which broke out in the garage, was reported at 1:40 a.m. Damage to the house--which had two additions--was about $20,000, and the loss in contents was estimated at $5,000, she said.

Skinner did not have the names of the homeless families. The cause of the fire is under investigation, she said.
