The State

A peace activist who smashed an out-of-use Vandenberg Air Force Base computer in the belief that she was destroying one intended for Star Wars project satellite tracking was charged in San Francisco federal court with malicious destruction of government property. Katya Komisaruk, 28, who earlier told reporters she broke into an unguarded building at the base to destroy the equipment, faces a possible 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. A base spokesman said the computer she damaged was obsolete and was simply being stored.
