Horner’s 9th Homer Leads Swallows, 8-6
Bob Horner’s three-run home run in the first inning, his ninth of the season, led the Yakult Swallows to an 8-6 win over the Chunichi Dragons in a Japanese League game Sunday. Horner, the former Atlanta Braves’ infielder, went 2 for 4 and is now hitting .333.
Meanwhile, the Yomiuri Giants beat the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, 4-2, as Giants reliever Luis Sanchez, formerly with the California Angels, held the Carp hitless in the last inning for his sixth save.
In another game, the Yokohama Taiyo Whales had 20 hits, including a two-run home run by Carlos Ponce, to blank the Hanshin Tigers, 9-0. Ponce.
