A school bus was struck head-on at a remote desert intersection today, injuring 19 children and one adult, but authorities said none of the injuries were serious.

The bus was turning left at Amboy Road and Utah Trail, 150 miles east of Los Angeles in the Mojave Desert, when it was struck by an oncoming car, said John Dempsey, assistant superintendent of the Morongo Unified School District. In addition to the driver, who was not injured, there were 56 students aboard the bus, ranging in age from 5 to 12 and headed for Oasis Elementary School. The 19 injured students suffered bruises and scrapes.
