Two of the four Orange Coast College baseball players who were picked in last week’s major league draft have signed professional contracts, college officials announced Tuesday.

Sophomore right-hander David Dawson, who was 5-3 with a 2.48 earned-run average and two saves this season, has signed with the Detroit Tigers. Dawson, who was drafted in the 11th round, is expected to report to Bristol, Conn., in the Appalachian Rookie League this week.

Dawson transferred to OCC from West Los Angeles College where he was 10-3 as a freshman because West L.A. dropped its baseball program as part of a cost-cutting measure.

Sophomore right-hander Scott Stoerck was drafted and signed by Seattle but the round hasn’t been released yet. Stoerck, a transfer from Chapman College, was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA and three saves for OCC.

Stoerck will report to Bellingham, Wash., Seattle’s team in the Northwest Rookie League.

Sophomore right-hander Jim Foley (10-3) was drafted by Seattle in the 13th round but hasn’t decided if he will sign. He has signed a letter of intent to attend Cal State Fullerton.

Mark Brouelette, a freshman reserve outfielder and second baseman also was drafted by Seattle, but he is expected to return to OCC next season.
