LONG BEACH — Champions Run for Life, a benefit for the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Memorial Miller Children’s Hospital, will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shoreline Aquatic Park.
Seventy-five children who have or have had cancer will run segments of one-eighth of a mile carrying an official Olympic torch. All runners will be accompanied by a sports or entertainment celebrity. After participants and spectators enjoy a picnic lunch, the LaMarca American Variety Singers will entertain with singing and dancing.
Each child who runs will be sponsored by a business or an individual who has donated $1,500. All proceeds will help provide the most sophisticated technology available, both diagnostic and therapeutic, to children with cancer.
