Seven news figures will be honored at the Greater Los Angeles Press Club’s 40th anniversary dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Century Plaza Hotel. The dinner will resemble a TV news show, being “co-anchored” by KCBS-TV Channel 2 news anchor Bill Stout and actress Lynn Redgrave.

The seven to be honored at the “Legends of News” dinner are Times columnists Jack Smith and Jim Murray, Mel Durslag of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, Ruth Ashton Taylor of Channel 2, Johnny Grant and Stan Chambers of KTLA-TV Channel 5 and Gladwin Hill, former environmental editor for the New York Times.

The program is being written by comedy writers Maury Green, Don Hall, Paul Taylor and Malvin Wald.
