Guidelines adopted two years ago in an attempt to curb high-risk sexual behavior at gay bathhouses operating in Los Angeles County will be reviewed to determine their effectiveness, the Board of Supervisors decided. Without voting on a proposal by Supervisor Pete Schabarum to halt inspections of the 12 remaining bathhouses, the board also asked county health officials to examine how San Francisco and New York have dealt with the problem. The supervisors are concerned that the bathhouses are a major cause of the spread of acquired immune deficiency syndrome through high-risk sexual behavior.
