6 Bus Routes to Beaches to Begin Service June 21

Six rescheduled bus routes providing direct transportation to area beaches will open June 21, Long Beach Transit has announced.

The summer routes are:

Routes 21/Cherry and 22/Downey: all day, every half-hour, to Bluff Park and the beach at the foot of Cherry Avenue.

Route 52/East 4th Street: direct service to Seal Beach at 15-minute intervals daily. The route also serves Colorado Lagoon and Marine Stadium in Long Beach.

Route 181/Shoreline Shuttle: from downtown to Shoreline Village and Marina Park every half-hour seven days a week.

Route 82/East 10th Street: Monday through Friday to and from the Belmont Shore peninsula during morning and afternoon rush hours.

Route 12/East Ocean Boulevard: every half-hour daily from downtown to Bluff Park and the Cherry Avenue beach, then to Belmont Shore, Naples and the Long Beach Marina by way of 2nd Street.

Bus fare for high school students and younger children is 40 cents; adult fare is 60 cents. Student monthly bus passes for unlimited rides are $12. Transfers to Orange County Transit District buses are available to Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and San Clemente for 10 cents.

Surfboards are not permitted aboard buses, but boogie boards and rubber rafts up to four feet long are accepted. Complete schedule and route information is available by calling Long Beach Transit at (213) 591-2301.
