Robert C. Davidson; Retired Manager of Los Angeles’ Department of Airports
Robert C. Davidson, administrator of operations at Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Van Nuys and Palmdale airports until his retirement in 1982, died Sunday of cancer at a Los Angeles area hospital. He was 62.
Davidson, whose background was in real estate and property acquisitions, joined Los Angeles’ Department of Airports in 1963 after working as an executive in the California Division of Highways.
In 1967 Davidson, a flying enthusiast with a private license, was named second deputy general manager of the department and placed in charge of the airports’ $500-million master plan. He became first deputy general manager the following year, the second-ranking executive behind Clifton A. Moore.
He resigned in 1982 to pursue his own business interests, among them a flight crew transit service for airlines. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Inglewood Mortuary.
