Countywide : Grand Jury Urges County Fireworks Vote

Share

Contending that legal fireworks damage people and property, the county grand jury recommended Thursday that county supervisors and members of city councils ask voters if they want the fireworks prohibited.

The sale and use of “safe and sane” fireworks are permitted in 15 of the county’s 26 cities and in unincorporated county territory, the grand jury said.

“The grand jury has found that there is a significant reduction in property loss and personal injury in those cities which have banned the sale of all fireworks,” a report said.

It recommended that the supervisors and councils in cities allowing the sale of fireworks hold public hearings on the issue by August, and on the next ballot give citizens “the opportunity to vote for or against the sale of safe and sane fireworks.”
