A 12-year-old Westminster Boy Scout has organized a one-day carnival to help collect food for the needy in Orange County.

Anthony Mueggler, a seventh-grader at Stacy Junior High School, has contacted vendors, businesses and other groups to donate goods for the carnival, which takes place today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eastwood Elementary School in Westminster.

The funds raised from the event will go to the Episcopal Service Alliance Santa Ana Community Service Office in Church of the Messiah, Santa Ana.

“There is a great need to feed the homeless and displaced persons,” the youth wrote in his project outline. “This project would be helpful to my religious institution and my community.”

Tickets for the various carnival activities, which include game booths, a bake sale and refreshment stands, can be bought either with cans of food or money. Tickets average 25 cents each. Booths will be staffed by Scouts and parent volunteers.

ESA, organized in 1978 by clergy and laity from Church of the Messiah and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin, is an ecumenical service agency that is supported by more than 50 interfaith churches.
