Owners of seven pit bull dogs took their pets to the Santa Clara County Humane Society last week, asking that they be killed after publicity over the recent fatal mauling of a Morgan Hill youngster. “There’s just hysteria in the community right now,” said Kathy Snow of the humane society, who added that usually no more than three dogs a week are turned in for death by lethal injection, and those are usually strays. Several of the pit bulls turned in had belonged to owners for years. Other area humane societies reported similar requests for euthanasia. “These dogs are in some cases getting unfair treatment,” Snow said. “People are overreacting. I have known some pit bulls who make lovely house pets.”
