Citing the recent conviction on third-degree illegal weapons possession charges of Bernhard Goetz in the New York subway slayings, the rap group Run-D.M.C. and singer Barry White told an audience at the California Youth Authority facility in Norwalk that crime indeed does not pay, and that Americans are making criminals pay with blood. "(The Goetz case) is a signal. The community of America is tired of crime," White said. "Don't be one of the statistics going down the sidewalk under a sheet with a tag tied to your toe."
