Countywide : Slow Growth Bid Begins in Traffic-Plagued Areas
A citizens group organized to fight development in communities plagued by traffic problems filed notice with the county Wednesday that it intends to circulate a petition to place the issue before voters next year.
Thomas C. Rogers, one of the organizers of the Quality of Life Coalition, said the group notified the county registrar of voters that it intends to collect the 65,763 signatures needed for the slow-growth measure to be placed on the June, 1988, ballot.
The organization, which Rogers said numbers about 500, may begin collecting signatures July 4. The signatures must be gathered by March 11.
If approved by voters, the measure will prohibit major new development in county areas with traffic problems or on freeways where traffic currently moves at an average of less than 35 m.p.h.
