THE DEAD ZONE: Wouldn’t you know it--all the rock groups whose names include Dead are putting out records at the same time. First off, it’s the Grateful Dead, whose first studio album in seven years, “In the Dark,” will hit the stores July 7. Selections include a new single, “Touch of Grey,” as well as “West L.A. Fade Away,” “Tons of Steel” and “Black Muddy River.” The band is already on tour, with a July 26 date (with Bob Dylan) scheduled for Anaheim Stadium. . . . Meanwhile, the now-defunct Dead Kennedys have a pseudo-greatest hits package due out this week from Alternative Tentacles Records. Titled “Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death,” the collection features the original singles versions of such cult classics as “Holiday in Cambodia” and “Too Drunk to . . .,” as well as such previously unreleased items as “Buzz Bomb From Pasadena” and “Night of the Living Red Necks.” Also included: a 24-page booklet with lyrics and the kind of provocative visual art that put the Jello Biafra-led band at the top of the PMRC hit list. . . . Let’s not forget the Dead Milkmen, who’re back--on Enigma Records--with a new album called “Bucky Fellini.” We can’t vouch for the tunes, but nobody invents better titles. They include “Nitro Burning Funny Cars,” “(Theme From) Blood Orgy of the Atomic Fern,” “Take Me to the Specialist” and our fave of the week, “Instant Club Hit (You’ll Dance to Anything).”
