The State : Envoy Claims Immunity, Avoids Arrest
The vice consul of Uruguay claimed diplomatic immunity and could not be arrested on a drunk driving charge after an injury accident in San Francisco, the California Highway Patrol reported Saturday. Officer Mark Pieschke said 29-year-old Gustavo Segovia was driving on Doyle Drive south of the Golden Gate Bridge early Friday when his car plowed into the rear of another car. “We had to accord him his full rights of diplomatic immunity” after Segovia produced his diplomatic identification, said Pieschke. The driver of the second car, Hannah Ku, 54, suffered neck, back and head injuries but declined hospitalization after paramedics treated her. Segovia had wrist cuts and a bruised chest. He was released after treatment at San Francisco General Hospital.
