Marvelous Marvin Hagler, former middleweight boxing champion, has been charged with abusing his wife, who has asked for court protection from her husband and custody of their children.

Bertha Hagler filed the civil petition last Friday in Hingham District Court in Massachusetts, a non-criminal action requesting court-ordered restraint, a court clerk said. A hearing on the matter was continued from last Friday until today.

Hagler, who has been in seclusion since his surprising and bitter loss to Sugar Ray Leonard April 6 in Las Vegas, could not be reached for comment. He is not charged with any criminal offense, officials said.
