Delegate to Discuss Unitarian Convention

A report on the annual Unitarian Universalist Assn. General Assembly, which met last week in Little Rock, will be given at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church, 1259 Victoria St. in Costa Mesa, by Bob Gillan, that congregation’s delegate.

More than 1,000 representatives of societies in North America attended the convention. Speakers included New York Times columnist Anthony Lewis, who delivered the Ware Lecture, named for a family of 19th-Century ministers.

According to Gillan, one of issues discussed at the convention was where to have next year’s meeting. To protest Arizona Gov. Evan Mecham’s rescinding of a holiday in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., it was decided to move the 1988 convention from Phoenix to Palm Springs.

Two delegates from Studio City will also give reports on the convention.
