Doesn’t Get Ripped Off

In response to Jerry Hulse’s lead item in the June 21 Travel Tips, I’ve managed to walk Las Ramblas and many other streets in cities around the world without the loss of any possessions--because I sew a zippered pocket inside jackets suitable for every climate. Before I leave my hotel I zip my money, traveler’s checks, passport, plane ticket and VISA card inside the pocket, and away I go.
I make the pockets of a good firm cotton, sew the zipper about an inch from the top, and whip them into my jackets by hand. The whole operation takes less than an hour, and I’m sure a tailor or dressmaker would do it for a very small charge. I put one into my down vest for a recent trip to Scandinavia.
