Cordero Rides Fiesta Gal to Win in Coaching Club American Oaks
Fiesta Gal, ridden by Angel Cordero Jr., took the lead entering the stretch and drew away to a 3 1/2-length victory Sunday over Mint Cooler in the $287,500 Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont Park.
Mint Cooler, ridden by Robbie Davis, led until the top of the stretch and then held on to finish second, 7 1/2 lengths ahead of Run Come See.
Fiesta Gal’s victory followed her triumph in the Mother Goose Stakes on June 6 at Belmont. She was second to Grecian Flight by 1 3/4 lengths in the Acorn Stakes on May 23 and by that margin failed to sweep the Filly Triple Crown.
The 3-year-old daughter of Alleged-Proud Pattie recorded her fourth victory in seven career starts, covering the 1 1/2 miles on the fast track in 2:31. She earned $172,500 for owner Gene Klein.
