St. Joseph Church Plans Centennial

Share

On July 17, 1887, Our Lady of the Rosary Church held its first Mass in a tiny chapel in Santa Ana. And next weekend, the parish, rededicated as St. Joseph Church, will celebrate its centennial year, making it the second-oldest parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange.

Champagne, cake and Big Band music will be featured at a dinner dance from 6 p.m. to midnight July 17 at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge. A papal blessing and a proclamation from President Reagan will be read by Msgr. Wilbur L. Davis, St. Joseph’s pastor.

A picnic will be held from noon to 5 p.m. July 18 at Cabrillo Park. Archbishop Thomas A. Clavel will preside at Sunday Mass July 19, which will be followed by a reception on the rectory lawn. Entertainment will be provided by Samoan church members and mariachi bands.
