Be Yourself but Beware of Scorn
Having attended many high school and college graduations, I would have loved to have heard David Graham’s speech at Artesia High School’s commencement this year.
While I may not agree 100% with what he said, I must admit the young man possesses acute insight. I am particularly interested in his comment regarding conformity in our society. There are many courses which teach young people to “be themselves.” But just try it, and the ridicule comes in waves from all sides.
I applaud Graham for his courage in a country that grooms thoughtless macho men, and I wish for him a rewarding career in theater arts. The world needs more David Grahams.
