Bell : Judge Out of Casino Case

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ricardo A. Torres has been removed from the case of California Bell Club Limited vs. Landmark Holding Group in a written decision handed down by the appellate court Tuesday.
The lawsuit by California Bell Club Limited asks for an injunction to prevent Landmark, a limited partner in the gambling casino, from taking over management of the club. Landmark’s bid for control followed a vote in March in which a majority of the limited partners in the concern voted to oust the present management. The managers have contested the vote and obtained a temporary restraining order against Landmark.
A group of overseas investors are in the process of attempting to buy a controlling interest in the club. The outcome of the suit will determine whether their shares will be sufficient to gain control.
Landmark’s attorney Edward Washington, who filed the motion seeking the judge’s removal on the grounds that he was prejudiced against Landmark, said the case will go forward as soon as a new judge is assigned.
