Anaheim Man Arrested After Chase, Gunfire
A 30-year-old man was arrested Friday in Anaheim after he led two Buena Park police officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car and later pointed a loaded handgun at the officers, a police spokesman said.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Michael Gray said Buena Park Officers Alex Holguin and Paul Sloggett were in the vicinity of Magnolia and Crescent streets in Anaheim at 2:50 p.m. when they saw a stolen car they were seeking.
The car’s driver, later identified as John Rogers of Huntington Beach, led the two officers on a chase over several miles before he hit another car at the intersection of Brookhurst and Crescent streets, Gray said.
Rogers got out of the car and pointed the pistol at the two officers. Sloggett responded by firing two rounds from a shotgun, a few pellets from which struck Rogers, Gray said.
Rogers then drove a few blocks before abandoning the vehicle in the 1100 block of La Palma Avenue and fleeing. Gray said Rogers was arrested nearby after a police helicopter helped to track him.
Rogers was booked into Anaheim City Jail on charges of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $25,000. Rogers was not injured seriously enough to be hospitalized, police said.
