Winds gusting to 25 m.p.h. fanned a brush fire across more than 700 acres of light grass and hillside shrubbery at Cajon Summit in the San Bernardino Mountains, threatening homes in the Oak Hill and Summit Valley communities. The California Department of Forestry sent 600 firefighters to the scene with 45 engines, three fixed-wing aircraft, two helicopters and three bulldozers, and by late evening, authorities said it was fully contained. ‘We’ve stopped its spread,” a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman said. “There’s no more vegetation for it to eat up.” Firefighters hoped to bring the blaze under full control sometime today.
