Schwartz Wins 9th Cycle Main Event
Defending national champion Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won his ninth scratch main event in the weekly speedway motorcycle racing Friday night at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa in front of a crowd of 4,141.
Schwartz, winner of 37 scratch main events on the Southern California circuit, was followed by Steve Lucero of Riverside, Robert Pfetzing of Santa Ana, and Louis Kossuth of Placentia.
Kevin Krugh of Elsinore survived a crash and went on to record his first win of the year in the handicap main event.
Krugh was followed by Scotty Brown of Garden Grove, Allen Christian of Huntington Beach, and Tuff McBride of Grand Terrace.
Kelly Moran of Huntington Beach pulled out of the final qualifying round of the InterContinental Final in Vojens, Denmark, after dislocating his shoulder last week.
