Laguna Beach’s Leach Is 3rd in Tennis
Third-seeded Jonathon Leach of Laguna Beach defeated fourth-seeded Oliver Fernandez of Mexico, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, to finish third in the USTA Boys 14 Clay-Court Championship Saturday at the Lauderdale Tennis Club.
Top-seeded Thomas Ho of Winter Haven beat second-seeded Ivan Baron of Pembroke Pines in the championship match. Ho, who was defeated in the semifinals last year at this tournament, dropped the first set tie-breaker then rallied in the next two sets to win, 6-7 (10-8) 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, Ho teamed with Leach against Fernandez and eighth-seeded Michael Klein of Los Angeles. Ho and Leach breezed through the first set, lost the second, but took the match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
