Safety-related incidents involving Delta Air Lines since June 18, 1987:

June 18--Delta jet at Nashville airport begins taxiing on runway where another plane had been cleared for takeoff. Takeoff aborted; no damage or injuries.

June 30--Delta jet plunges to within 600 feet of the ocean off Los Angeles when pilot accidentally cuts off fuel to both engines.

July 5--Delta jet hits van while taxiing at Washington’s National Airport. Van knocked over; no injuries.

July 6--Delta jet lands at wrong airport in Kentucky.

July 8--Delta jet has narrow miss and close pass with other jetliners off Newfoundland.

July 12--Delta jet lands on wrong runway at Boston’s Logan Airport.

July 12--Delta jet headed to New York returns to Cincinnati after oil-pressure warning light causes pilot to shut down one of the plane’s two engines.

July 12--Delta jet bound for San Francisco returns to Cincinnati because of malfunction in automatic pilot.

July 15--Delta jet bound for Salt Lake City returns to Los Angeles because galley door is improperly closed and pilot is unable to pressurize cabin.

July 15--Delta jet bound for Mexico returns to Los Angeles after experiencing control panel malfunction.

July 17--Delta jet takes off from Boston without proper clearance as another airliner is about to cross the runway.

July 20--Delta baggage handler inadvertently locked in airliner’s luggage compartment at Atlanta but is released before takeoff.

July 23--Three incidents: Delta jet lands at Houston Intercontinental Airport after a landing gear tire falls off after takeoff from another Houston airport. Delta jet flying from Atlanta to LaGuardia Airport experiences problems with its wing flaps and lands on the longer runways at Kennedy International Airport. In London, a Delta jet makes an emergency landing at Gatwick after experiencing technical problems at takeoff. After examination, plane flies on to Cincinnati.
