Sheriff Killed by Bullet From Rifle Rigged to Door

STOCKTON, Mo. — The sheriff of Cedar County was killed by fire from a .30-caliber rifle that was booby-trapped to a doorknob in a mobile home where he had gone to investigate a burglary report, police said. Two brothers were charged later Sunday in the death of Sheriff C. A. LaRew, 34, but police said they were uncertain for whom the trap was intended.
