A male prostitute charged with attempted murder for allegedly selling his AIDS-infected blood is mentally competent to stand trial, a Los Angeles mental health judge ruled today.

Judge Florence Bernstein based her ruling on the recommendations of two court-appointed psychiatrists who examined Joseph Markowski, 29, after his attorney reported earlier this month that his client appeared mentally confused and was twitching and rambling during an interview.
