Graham Loses in California Open
Debbie Graham of Fountain Valley lost to Elly Hakami of San Francisco, 6-2, 6-2, Thursday in the second round of the 86th annual California Open tennis tournament.
Top-seeded Melissa Gurney of Palos Verdes defeated Louise Allen of Durham, N.C., 6-3, 6-2. Terry Phelps, the No. 2 seed from Larchmont, N.Y., defeated Karen Schimper of South Africa, 6-4, 6-0, and Kathy Jordan of King of Prussia, Pa., topped Noel Porter of San Clemente, 7-6, 6-3.
In men’s play, No. 1 seed Scott Melville of San Marino downed Geordie McKee of Palo Alto, 6-4, 6-2, and fourth-seeded Matt Wooldridge of Los Gatos beat James Johnson of Palo Alto, 6-4, 6-2.
