Local News in Brief : Scheduling of Vote on Cityhood Is Postponed

Share

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday postponed a vote on whether to set a Nov. 3 election date on cityhood in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The vote was rescheduled for Thursday when Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, who has been ill, did not attend the meeting. Backers of Santa Clarita incorporation say they need Hahn’s support to obtain the three votes necessary to schedule the election.

If the supervisors do not approve the motion Thursday, there will not be enough time to permit a November election. The next possible election date would be in the spring.

If the supervisors approve the November election on Thursday, City Council candidates will only have until Friday to file their election papers with the county.
