A 13-year-old boy has disappeared from his home in the 2200 block of Logan Avenue, and San Diego police said Tuesday they have no clues as to his whereabouts.

Miguel Samaniego, 13, a fifth-grader at Gage Elementary School in San Carlos, was last seen by his family as he rode away from his front yard on his BMX bicycle Monday.

“This boy comes from a solid family,” police spokesman Bill Robinson said. “He does not appear to be a runaway. We’ve got the patrols out looking for him and we’re circulating his pictures, hoping somebody will call us.”

The boy’s father, Ismael Samaniego, said his son was outside eating a shrimp cocktail with his five younger siblings and neighborhood kids early Monday afternoon. When he finished eating with the children, Miguel rode off on his bicycle, possibly to hunt for aluminum cans in Chicano Park, Samaniego said.

“He only has permission to go to two nearby parks and nowhere else,” the father said. “If he wants to go somewhere else, he usually asks for permission.”

Samaniego said most of Miguel’s friends gathered at his home Monday afternoon to play baseball with Miguel, but the boy never showed up.

“My son is the one in charge of distributing to the kids the gloves and baseball equipment which we keep in our house,” Samaniego said.

Police said they have no reason to suspect foul play, but neither do they believe that Miguel ran away from home.

The boy was wearing a light blue T-shirt with a white collar and black stripes, black pants, a red baseball cap and white tennis shoes.
