Pomona : Fire Chief Not Confirmed
A deadlocked City Council has failed to confirm acting Fire Chief Ron Robertson as permanent head of the department. By a 2-2 vote, the four-member council rejected City Administrator Ora E. Lampman’s recommendation that Robertson be named chief.
At Monday’s meeting, Councilman Mark A. T. Nymeyer sharply criticized Lampman for bringing the matter to the council without enough support to confirm Robertson and accused the administrator of insubordination.
Nymeyer and Councilwoman Nell Soto, who both voted against Robertson’s confirmation, called it a private personnel matter and refused to elaborate on their decision.
Robertson, who was named acting fire chief 15 months ago when then-chief John Fowlkes stepped down for health reasons, said he did not know why the two council members refused to support his confirmation.
