Firefighters’ Truck Destroyed in Blaze
The pumper truck was on the scene the moment the fire broke out Wednesday, but the firefighters arrived too late to save the truck and thousands of dollars of equipment inside their substation.
A passer-by discovered smoke and flames coming from Hunley’s Garage, where the East Hawkins County Volunteer Fire Department rents space for an office filled with records, sleeping quarters and a small pumper truck.
The volunteers, with help from other firefighters in the area, fought the blaze for two hours before it was extinguished. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
