A New York City firefighter participating in the World Police and Fire Games collapsed and died, apparently of a heart attack, moments after competing in a boat race Wednesday.
Fire Capt. James Lynch, 54, completed his round in the 1,000-meter singles rowing competition, “took two steps and collapsed” on the Mission Bay shore shortly after 8 a.m., said Dan Fasching, director of the San Diego Police Athletic Federation.
