A Fullerton man was killed Saturday when the pickup truck he was driving struck a power pole, blacking out a small area of Santa Ana near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Flower Street.

The vehicle, driven by Jesus J. Sanchez, 40, was traveling east on Warner Avenue when it left the roadway, crossed a concrete median and hit the Southern California Edison Co. pole, according to Santa Ana Police Sgt. Dan Carr. Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene by Orange County Fire Department paramedics.

The collision, which took place at about 1.30 p.m., knocked out a circuit and left 2,000 homes without power, according to Jim Sumrow, a spokesman for Edison. Power was restored to most of the customers within half an hour, Sumrow said, but service to about 150 homes was not restored until 6.45 p.m.
