L. A. Harbor : New Port Official Quits

One of four people recently appointed to high staff positions by Ezunial Burts, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, has resigned.

Steve Dillenbeck quit after his first day on the job as director of property management. He took a similar job at the Port of Long Beach.

Before Burts appointed him, Dillenbeck had been project manager at the port-operated Cabrillo Marina. He got that job in 1984 after being removed as an assistant to former Executive Director E. L. Perry.

As director of property management, Dillenbeck was to be paid $67,129. He will get $69,000 at Long Beach. Dillenbeck had been with the Los Angeles port for 18 years.

Burts also appointed Lonnie Tang, an internal management consultant to the port since October, to the new position of director of commerce. Tang, who will be paid $72,620, oversees the port’s marketing, property management, planning and research divisions.

Ronald W. Kennedy, director of property management, was named to another new position, director of operations. Kennedy, who has worked for the port for 22 years, oversees day-to-day operations of the port pilot, port warden and port wharfinger offices. He also serves as the port’s representative in labor matters and tenant-related problems. He will earn $73,643.

Cal E. Burton, director of economic development, sales and marketing for Leimert Professional Corp., was named director of government and community relations. Burton, who oversees legislative matters and public relations, will be paid $49,819. He replaces Chuck Gibson, who resigned to take a job at the Price Waterhouse accounting firm.
