Local News in Brief : Sherman Oaks Artist Arraigned in Slaying
A 40-year-old Sherman Oaks man was arraigned Wednesday in Van Nuys Municipal Court on a charge of murder in the July 20 strangulation of an 18-year-old woman.
Richard Heywood Jordan faces an Aug. 27 preliminary hearing. He is being held without bond.
Jordan, a graphic artist, is accused of killing Jacquie Raye Graham, who had recently moved from Seattle to start a new life in Southern California. Her body was found in a Van Nuys park.
Graham’s boyfriend, Richard Hurst, told police that he last saw her as she was getting into Jordan’s car the day before her body was found. According to police, Hurst and Graham were down on their luck and Graham had turned to prostitution.
