Heart Recipient, 15, Sent Home; Partly Paralyzed
A 15-year-old boy who in April became the youngest artificial heart recipient is back home, but he will continue therapy for a stroke suffered just before the implant, hospital officials said Wednesday.
Christopher Larson, who received a human heart in May, was discharged Tuesday from the Sister Kenny Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, spokeswoman Megan O’Hara said. He returned to his home in Esdaile, Wis.
Larson still cannot speak because of the stroke, which affected his right side, the hospital said. His right arm remains partly paralyzed, but he has regained significant use of his right leg and can walk with an ankle brace.
