Autopsies of two girls whose bodies were found earlier this month in a burned van at a Nevada County campsite conclude that it is likely that both were shot in the head before the fire. Nevada County Sheriff Bill Heafy said that in part because of the extent of the burn injuries, it was impossible to confirm conclusively that the girls had died of gunshot wounds, but that “it appears likely.” Heafy added that t1751457895Alyssia Moonfeather Hollek, 5, were probably both dead before the van was set on fire Aug. 1 at a camp near Lake Spaulding in the Sierra. Nearby campers told deputies that they heard shots before the fire and saw a man, later identified as Gerald Frank Hollek, 33, standing beside the burning van holding a gasoline can. Hollek, father of the two girls, is being held without bail on murder charges.
