For the second consecutive weekend, the big sports attraction on the small screen is the Pan American Games.

CBS will televise the games from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with baseball, boxing, diving and track on tap. Sunday will bring a four-hour telecast focusing on those sports plus basketball and gymnastics from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on (2)(8).

Following its coverage of the Pan Am Games, CBS will carry The International golf tournament from Castle Rock, Colo. The PGA tourney will be shown today and Sunday at 1 p.m. (2)(8).

Later today, ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” will devote its entire program to the VII International Special Olympics from South Bend, Ind. It’s an event in which nearly 5,000 mentally handicapped athletes competed in 14 Olympic-type sports. The program will air at 3:30 p.m. (10) and 4:30 p.m. (7)(3)(42).

On the baseball diamond, the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants lock up in a pair of games that KTTV Channel 11 will telecast from Candlestick Park today and Sunday at 1 p.m.

For pro football fans, KABC-TV Channel 7 serves up a late-night replay of the Los Angeles Raiders-San Francisco 49ers game tonight at 11:45. It will be repeated Sunday at 11:45 p.m.

Two other preseason NFL games are due Sunday. The first is between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, starting at 10:30 a.m. (7)(3)(10)(42), with the Chicago Bears-Miami Dolphins match-up arriving at 5 p.m. on ESPN cable.

The Bears-Dolphins game launches ESPN’s coverage of 12 NFL games this season, including eight regular-season contests.

Viewers who prefer auto racing can tune in the CART Pocono 500 on “SportsWorld” Sunday at 1 p.m. (36)(39) and 2 p.m. (4). Afterwards, there’s the fourth and final race in the International Race of Champions series airing Sunday at 4 p.m. (7)(3)(10)(42).
